Although Somnet’s prime area of business activity belongs to ‘Imaging Informatics’, our research and development activity engulfs much bigger and diverse areas like cloud computing, embedded systems, application frameworks, open source software, intelligent neural networks and solar photovoltaics.

In imaging informatics, Somnet has already many firsts in its credit. We have successfully created OmniPACS, world’s first open source Tele-radiology platform, the country’s first open source Digital Library – iLIB and Document Management System – iDOC.

Somnet’s entire computing infrastructure runs on private cloud from its smart data centre located at Kolkata and has successfully shown the world that private cloud computing is not a reserved space for large multinational organizations. Currently we are working with various projects of national and international importance.


OpenLabs, our flagship centre provide an environment for cutting edge IT research in leading-edge technologies. Our labs are well connected to academic research centers of many institutes and universities. Internships, participate and learn (PAL) programs and workshops with academia also contribute to the pulsating interaction.
